508 hours in 2018

My goal has been to do 480 hours per year, 2018 was the first year that I made the target. Life do get in the way but no regrets, I think I have made good priorities :) I will not commit to any date but I definitely expect to fly during the first half of 2019.

29 spacers

Only a 20 minute session today, separated and deburred the spacers that might be used when attaching the control column.

35 hours done this month.

Hours @ 2017-04-30

Wow, just realized that I haven't made any post about hours done, since March 2016.

Here is an update:

23.1 March -16
20.6 Apr -16
7.5 May -16
7.1 Jun -16
12.7 Jul -16
15.9 Aug -16
5.9 Sep -16
4.5 Oct -16
6.2 Nov -16
1.0 Dec -16
7.4 Jan -17
20.8 Feb -17
31.2 Mar -17

47.0 April -17 Total 885.8 hours in the shop. probably another 10% outside and then another 50 hours done by others. So in total there are definitely more than one thousand hours in this build by now.

As can be seen, first I had a lousy period due to the messy work with the tanks and then I had a really bad period when my children was difficult to get to sleep. Now I am trying to pick up the pace, my goal is to have an average of above 30 hours per months from now on.

3/1/17

806.6 hours @ 2017-02-28

20.8 hours in Februari, not to bad. Aiming for 30 per months.

3/2/16

691.8 hours @ 2016-02-29

So February resulted in an all time low. Only 3.7 hours done, the only thing that was done was to move around stuff and clean up the shop in preparation for the fuselage and finish kits.

I wish I could blame the low number of hours on having to wait for new parts but that would be a lie. The next working session will be tearing down the insulation covering the shop doors so after that I have a valid excuse for not working on the project until after the kits have arrived and the insulation can be put back up again ;)

I am starting to miss working on the plane so I hope that the recent troubles with getting the kids to sleep on time, goes away when it´s time to pick up the pace again.

I have also tried to research what extra electrical cables I will need in the wings for the heated pitot and although I have found some answers on other blogs, I have not gotten enough details to go out and buy the cables, placing them and then closing up the bottom wing skins.

Lots done on the ailerons

A very productive session. Many different tasks done. Another fun fact is that I have now spent 508.1 hours on the actual kits and 101 hours on other things like improving the shop, building the practice tool box....
Final drilling

Rounding the edges that will be on the inside of the aileron leading edges

Marking with a pen while removing the labels and the protective film

Removing the tabs that kept the two halves together

Dimpling with the squeezer

Deburring holes with a drill bit in a screw driver

Had to read ahead to make sure I made one part of each for the left and right aileron.

Not obvious what to dimple and on what side the countersinks should be

#12 countersinks are large

The #12 screw is in the left assembly, I am countersinking the right one

Here one can clearly see how I mark parts to make sure that I place the same parts together and in the same orientation (The red stripes, I try to stick to red for left and green for right)

A messy table after doing so many different tasks tonight

Hours and more wing inventory

Spent another hour checking the smaller sub kits for the wings. I have not checked the content of the bags yet but all bags are present. No pictures...

There are several reasons for the low hours in January, the cold weather itself, I myself had a cold, plastic work not suitable in the cold, expecting the wing kit and therefore making room in the shop. The wing kit arrived on the 29th of January and I'm picking up speed again :D
