Wings at the airport

After a careful 1.5 hour ride the Wings were unloaded at the airport.

12/28/17

Prepping for moving the wings

This evening I added some wood to the wing cradle in preparation for moving the wings to the airport tomorrow. I would have liked to keep them in the shop but there is no place for them when the engine arrives.

Removed the insulation at the door, all set for tomorrows move now.

2/27/17

Milestone, wings done!

There will of course be installation of pitot heat, autopilot servos, landing light and so on but all the "wing" chapters in the manual are now complete!

2/26/17

Wing strobe-nav connections done

Had a helper today.

Where does this go?

2/24/17

Wingtip ribs riveted, flaps reattached....

Wingtip ribs riveted, flaps reattached, Aileron actuation nuts torqued. To do on the wings are to attach the lightning wires to the molex connectors and then it is just about done. I will do the final trimming of the wing tips at a later date, maybe even after first flight.

2/6/17

Fixing

One hour done tonight, ost of the time spent getting out a broken screw from one of the nutplates.

2/2/17

Cover plates

Final drilled, deburred and dimpled the Cover plates for the opening on the wings undersides.

A video, only for the fanatics ;)

9/8/16

AOA routing done

So with a new drill bit I could finally do the holes in the ribs for the AOA line. After some cleanup I attached the inner skin again, maybe I will rivet it on now.

9/7/16

Unproductive

Got nothing done tonight, need a longer drill bit.

9/6/16

I need another tool

Well, a long drill bit or thin extensions to be able to drill a hole for the AOA line in the left wings inner four ribs.

10/7/15

ADAHRS mount assembled

Riveted the ADAHRS mount tonight.

Squeezed enough?

Could not reach with the squeezer so I tried out the new back rivet set together with the C-frame and gun

I had made the holes #40, they should be #30 so another match drilling done

Deburring

ADAHRS mount riveted onto the skin stiffener. Wonder if it is possible to back-rivet it onto the skin and then cleco onto the wing?

Read another builders log, "E" He has counted the rivets (without the firewall forward kit to include 20237 rivets for the RV14A. It should be very close for my RV14!!! The more detailed calculation shows that I have probably done more than 10000 already!
E's site, rivet count

10/6/15

Lower skins and ADAHRS mount primed

Lower skins and ADAHRS mount primed.

Dulled with red scotch brite, washed with air and some fat remover before being primed.

10/1/15

Match and finaldrilling

Did some match- and final-drilling on the innermost parts of the bottom skins (Did the right wing as well even if it is not mentioned at this time in the plans). And also final drilled the #19 holes for the access panel screws.

Then I fitted the Cleaveland C-frame parts to my C-frame, check the comments on the pictures, a typical example of what happens when you take however great measures... but only once ;)

match drilling, holes for the nutplates are in the skin but not in the rib when delivered

Final drilled to #19

Final drilled to #19

Old

Opening up the middle hole for the bigger die

smoothing up with the dremel

Mistake captured on "film", the dieholder is not in its correct position as I have not made the hole in the underlying wood

Missing roughly 13mm

An extra piece of wood under each feet and all is good again.

9/29/15

More ADAHRS mount

Match drilled the ADAHRS mount to the stiffener. deburred lots of holes, dimpled all bottom wing stiffeners and then mounted the inner bottom wing skin in preparation for more match drilling.

9/28/15

ADAHRS mount

A short session as I have to do some work in the evenings this week. Riveted a few rivets that I had left on the rear spar because I was afraid that they would interfere with the fairings. Then I mounted the ADAHRS mounting plate together with the bottom skin and stiffener with clecos.

9/27/15

Aileron and flaps fairings done

Almost all could be squeezed. Went to far with the GoPro...

9/26/15

More fairing work

Almost done with these parts.

Primed the other side of the fairings

Flap and aileron fairings

deburred and one side primed. Did the pitot parts and some j-channels at the same time.

9/24/15

Pitot mast almost done and started on chapter 20

Chapter 20 is called Bottom wing skin. The first part of the chapter is however the Aileron and flap gap fairings. I sanded, final drilled and dimpled the flap gap stiffeners and then dimpled the fairings. I was not mentioned but I think it would have been good to break the edges before dimpling... to late now and not critical in any way.

I also vacuumed the shop in the afternoon.
removed some primer runnings

after another shot of primer I installed the nutplates

left to do is to prime the mounting plate and spacer
