Flight 35, Fans

Today I finally got around to connect the two fans that wents the avionics and also help with getting fog of the canopy.

I also fixed the co-pilot trim up function, as last time it was the micro molex connector that had come loose. Last thing done was to set some squelch and mic gain, and other settings in the ICOM220.

Fueled the aircraft and then washed it for the first time. Take off video with the cleaned RV:

Canopy wires

Success, One of the smaller but difficult thing that was left to do before moving everything to the airport is done.

I had read about the problem with getting the wires for the door warning switch inside the canopy frame. It sure was a hassle but after spending 15 minutes getting the safety wire in place, the two wires followed all the way on the first try and it then took about 10 minutes to get them thru the oval hole.

I also installed the koger shade.

The last session with the sticky proseal?

 My amazing wife who was in bead reading, agreed to come out and help me torque the screws/nuts :D

I think I managed to do it without getting any proseal on the window.

Had some problems, It must have fitted good at some point in the past as the holes are match drilled by me, but now it was impossible to get the window in place without grinding of some plexi slightly back of the roll bar at the bottom.

I was to tired to work tonight. The next session will involve the messy proseal again :/

I have spent around 30 minutes in the last few evenings looking both in the shop and in inventory list for the female molex connectors used to connect the stick wires. I then read another builders blog stating that they were not included! Ordered now, should arrive next week.

Canopy handle, more cable bushings, head set jacks, tested and started attaching the flap motor cables.

Lots done on the seat backs during the last two nights. They are basically done now. Then I did the last parts of chapter 38 that I will do for now. The last steps should only be completed after final installment of the canopy. I will want to be able to remove it during avionics installation so I will hold off on these for now.

Solved the canopy closing problem.

While the forward canopy seal might have contributed some to the problem, the C-1453 guide pins were found to be the problem. I followed the instructions exactly and still the pins interfered with the guide plate at the forward end. By grinding of less than 1/16 inch (about 1mm) from the guide plate hole at the forward end, the canopy could be closed without binding.

Then I continued with preparing parts for the seat backs.

I also found a seal replacement at a local hardware store. Most probably it is from the same manufacturer as Vans uses, It looks and feels the same.

Finishing chapter 38, some minor trouble

After a nice vacation to the Canary islands (Fuerte Ventura, Calete de Fuste), I am back at it again.

Started on the hinge cover assemblies. Then I discovered that I could not close the canopy fully after installing the seals, I think I have identified the D Seal C-01447 as the problem, it was mounted to far forward, I put it at 1.6 mm(the stated minimum), probably to close. Unfortunately it was impossible to remove it without ripping it apart. I will now have to find a replacement.

Passed 100 hours on chapter 38!

But not much more to do :D

38, 39, 35 Seat backs Seals and proseal

Trimmed and deburred seat back parts. Trimmed and match drilled some piano hinges. Got my wife to help me remove and then place nack the canopy so I could mount the forward canopy seal. And as a final task, I finished chapter 35 by putting proseal between the front upper skin and the fire wall to close the final small openings.
